Maria Deyo, a 17 year old was involved in a serious car accident minutes after being stopped by the police for speeding. Deyo was going 72 in a 35 mph zone. After the accident officers found out that Deyo was drunk and had many beer cans and bottles in the car. Deyo's parents feels like the police officer is responsible for what happened to their daughter because if the officer would have arrested her for driving while under the influence she wouldn't have almost lost her life. The family is now filing a law suit against the police department for her medical bills which has now exceeded 250 thousand dollars. I do believe that filing a law suit against the police department is ethical because if the officer would have done his job, the medical bills and the accident wouldn't of happened.
